Massage Therapy

Victoria Registered Massage Therapists (RMT) are trained in the assessment, treatment and prevention of soft tissue injury and dysfunction.  In order to be licensed to practice in BC one must complete a 3000 hour program from a provincially regulated college and then successfully complete both written and practical licensing exams. Mandatory continuing education credits must be obtained in order to remain licensed and to ensure that patients benefit from the most recent research and training that is available.

Massage therapists use a multitude of active and passive soft tissue and joint manipulation techniques along with exercise prescription to effectively treat the muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nervous system, allowing the body to operate at its greatest potential.  Any individual can benefit from Massage Therapy as it is proven to be effective at managing both acute and chronic musculoskeletal and neurological pain.  Both elite and recreational athletes will benefit from improved athletic performance, decreased injuries and improvement in recovery time.  Motor vehicle accident victims, workplace injuries and postural compensation causing headaches, shoulder, back and neck pain can all be effectively treated by a Registered Massage Therapist.

Massage therapy is a proven effective treatment at reducing pain and scar tissue formation post surgery. Treatments can often be performed in just days after many procedures, and treatment is still effective on scar tissue and restoration of normal range of motion in months or years post operation.
