What to expect on your first visit
Initial chiropractic appointments are approximately 30-45 minutes, at which time a medical history and examination are needed to assess your problem. Dr. McIlmoyle or Dr. Verners will then review with you the diagnosis and options of appropriate treatment. Subsequent visits are approximately 15-20 minutes. Typically, treatment consists of manipulation, exercises, education, soft tissue therapy.
Frequency of treatment
Many people believe that once they begin chiropractic treatment, they will have to keep visiting a chiropractor indefinitely. This is not necessarily true. Once you have completed your initial course of treatment, Dr. McIlmoyle or Dr. Verners will give you options, instructions and advice on how to limit recurrent problems.
Some patients, however, will choose and benefit from preventative measures through regular chiropractic care. Clinical experience suggests that individuals with chronic conditions such as osteoarthritis or recurrent neck pain, back pain, or headaches experience less frequent and less severe symptoms when under regular chiropractic care. This applies to individuals in highly stressful situations and those who experience repetitive physical and postural strain from their daily activities.

Other questions you may have
- Is soft tissue therapy painful?
- The first one or two treatments can be somewhat uncomfortable depending on the severity of the condition and the patient's pain tolerance. However, even if the treatment is uncomfortable and reproduces their symptoms, this is only temporary and will stop a few seconds after the treatment. In most cases, following the first treatment a patient will experience a positive result. This may be an increased range of motion, less pain, increased muscle strength, or decreased numbness and tingling.
- Can I benefit from soft tissue therapy even if I have already been evaluated and treated by other doctors and specialists?
- Most of the cases seen by Dr. McIlmoyle and Dr. Verners are those patients whom have been treated by other health care providers unsuccessfully. Most of these patients are happily surprised when they experience an improvement in their condition after just one or two treatments.
- What if my doctor recommends surgery?
- There are cases where surgery might be inevitable. Since soft tissue therapy is non-invasive and has no side effects, it is practical to try soft tissue therapy first.
